April 25, 2015: Nepal - Earthquake.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 on the Richter scale, followed by several aftershocks, hit the center of the Nepal including the capital Kathmandu on April 25, 2015. Over 8,000 dead and tens of thousands injured are reported. Many historic buildings in Kathmandu (among others, in the famous Durbar square), Patan and Bhaktapur were destroyed.

The earthquake, the epicenter of which is close to Gorka, also caused deadly avalanches in the Himalayas. The Everest base camp was severely damaged by snow flows. A hundred of climbers who were blocked two days on the slopes of Mount Everest following an avalanche were evacuated by helicopter.

The earthquake has been the strongest earthquake in the country since 1934. It was felt as far as New Delhi in India and in Pakistan. The Nepalese Government appealed for help from the international community. The financial assistance they received is much less than expected.
