- 1st January : New year’s day (Taom-baovao) 

- 29 March : 1947 events commemoration (Martioran'ny tolona tamin'ny 1947)

- Easter Monday (Alatsinain'ny Paska)

- 1st May : Labour Day (Fetin'ny asa) 

- Ascension Thursday (Andro niakarana)

- Whit Monday (Alatsinain'ny Pentekosta)

- 26 June : Independence Day (Fetim-pirenena) 

- 15 August : Assumption Day (Asompsiona) 

- 1st November : All Saints’ Day (Fetin'ny olo-masina) 

- 25 December : Christmas  (Krismasy)

In the educational system, terms last two or three months, depending on whether you are in private or public schools. Holidays are nearly the same, although their length slightly differs from one system to another (Christmas, Schools’ Day, Shrove Tuesday, Easter, Long holidays, All Saints).
