October 2018 - Iran: Visa separate from the passport.

Tourists who want to visit Iran must continue to apply for the visa from the Iranian Embassy in their country. But, from now on, most of them (with the exception of those from the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and some other countries) will then receive it by e-mail (just like an e-visa) and no longer in the form of an annotation and a seal in their passport. So, this passport will no longer contain traces of their visit to Iran.

September 2017- Iran: Online Visa.

Iran has just set up a website that enables visitors to apply for any kind of visa to Iran. This site is designed for instance for travelers who have got an official letter of invitation, but also for tourists who may get a visa on arrival at Tehran airport. It is indeed highly recommended that they register beforehand on this web site in order to expedite the issuance of the visa at the airport.

December 2015: Iran - New airline routes.

With the next lifting of the international embargo against Iran, several Western airlines will open or reopen routes to Iran. So, Tehran Imam Khomeini international airport will be served from Paris (Roissy airport) by Air France as from April 10, 2016, from Cologne/Bonn by Eurowings from March 29, 2016 and from Munich by Lufthansa from April 15, 2016 (in addition to the current flights from Frankfurt). It will be also connected to Copenhagen by the Iranian airline Mahan Air as from March 3, 2016.

From April 5, 2016, Austrian Airlines, which already offers flights between Vienna and Tehran, opens a new route to Isfahan airport, a world heritage city. Austrian Airlines is the first Western airline that opens a route in Iran outside Tehran.

August 23, 2015: Iran and United Kingdom: reopening of their embassies.

On August 23, 2015, the United Kingdom and Iran reopened their reciprocal embassy after a closure of 4 years.

July 2015: Iran - removal of visa requirements.

According to an Iranian press report, Iran has removed visa requirement for citizens of 7 countries (Turkey, Lebanon, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Bolivia, Egypt and Syria). Those citizens may stay in Iran without visa from 15 to 90 days. Iran is considering a visa waiver program under which visa limitations for citizens of 60 other countries will be lifted.

As from November 2015, citizens of 190 countries may get a visa on arrival at the airport. The visa is valid for 30 days, with a possible extension of 15 days. The United States, the United Kingdom and several countries of South-East Asia are not included in that list.

July 14, 2015: Iran - nuclear deal.

The agreement between Iran and the major international powers to prevent the Iranian nuclear program from being used for military purposes paves the way for the lifting of international sanctions against Iran.
