Dance in Cambodia    Dance is an important art form in Cambodia. All the dances are highly symbolic, with a strict order and prescribed form. The Khmer Rouge killed or exiled many dancers because of their close relationship with the royal family (many dancers were well-born or actually members of the royal family).    There are ongoing attempts to revive and restore this classical art form. If you have a chance to attend a performance, you really should do so, both to support the efforts to ring the art form back, and to experience a very unusual dance form.   Folk dances never really went away.
