Travel guide and directory
The Riel is the currency of Cambodia. It is subdivided into 10 kak or 100 sen. Riel was first issued between 1953 and May 1975. After the Vietnamese invasion in 1978, the riel was re-established as the Cambodian currency in 1980. Vietnam, as many other countries in Asia, prefers US dollars. Make sure the dollars you bring are: - Not worn - Clean, with no writing or stains - No older than 10 years Now you may be able to exchange euros too. In rural areas the riel is used for virtually all purchases, large and small. However, in urban Cambodia and tourist areas, the US dollar is also used. In Battambang and other areas near the Thai border, the Thai baht is also accepted. ATMs are pretty scarce in Cambodia.
