14 and 15 April 2016: Japan - Terrible deadly earthquakes.

Two earthquakes, one a magnitude of 6.5 and the other 7.3, as well as many replicas and several large landslides took place in mid-April 2016 in the region of Kumamoto in the southwest of the Japan. A first estimate reported at least 42 dead and more than 100,000 evacuees. The walls of 400-year old Kumamoto Castle were breached.

March 26, 2016: Japan - Launch of Hokkaido Shinkansen, the high-speed train between Tokyo and Hokkaido.

Since Seikan tunnel between the islands of Honshu and Hokkaido in the north part of Japan has been opened, the high-speed Shinkansen train connects Tokyo to Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto station in the island of Hokkaido in only 4 h 02 as from March 26. It is a journey of about 900 km. There are daily 10 round trips.

September 14, 2015: Japan - Eruption of volcano Aso.

The 1,592-metre (5,222ft) high Mount Aso erupted on Monday. Tourists are urged to depart the area which is a popular hiking destination. With a 25 km-large caldera consisting of several volcanic cones, Mount Aso is one of the largest active volcanoes in the world. It is located in the island of Kyūshū in the southeast of Japan.
