April 2017: South America - Yellow fever cases.

Some countries in South America currently experience a cyclical increase of the cases of yellow fever: Suriname, Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Colombia and Ecuador. As from April 2017, access to several regions of Colombia (excluding Bogota) will not be allowed for unvaccinated travelers.

August 24, 2016:
Colombia - Final agreement between the authorities and FARC rebels.

After several years of negotiations in Cuba, the Colombian Government and the FARC rebels reached a deal to end definitively the 50-year-old guerrilla war which has left more than 200,000 dead and more than 7 million displaced.

October 2015: Schengen Area - Visa lifted for citizens of Peru and Colombia.

Citizens of Peru and Colombia will soon be able to visit countries of the Schengen area without a visa for a stay not exceeding 3 months. The shift was decided in June and is ready to be implemented before the end of this year. However, an e-passport is required to enter the Schengen area without visa. The visa was reestablished in 2001 for both countries in order to limit drug traffic and illegal immigration. 

September 23, 2015: Colombia - important agreement between the government and FARC.

The Colombian Government and the FARC guerrilla group reached an agreement upon an amnesty that excludes the fighters who committed war crimes and provides reparations for victims. The deal establishes peace tribunals. It sets the groundwork for a final accord within six months. For the first time in 14 years, Colombia's president met the leader of the FARC rebels. The negotiation continues under the auspices of Cuba and Norway.

The 40-year old conflict between the Colombian authorities and the leftist rebel group killed 220,000 and displaced millions. 

July 12, 2015: Colombia - De-escalation agreement between the government and FARC 

Colombia and leftist FARC guerrillas agreed on a ceasefire and the suspension of anti-rebel operations. This should re-launch the dialogue process between them.
