September 2017 - Peru: Visiting Machu Picchu.In contrast to previous years, access rights to Machu Picchu via the Inca Trail for 2018 will be allocated once and for all on October 1, 2017. The total amount of visitors is limited (3,267 visitors in the morning and 2,673 in the afternoon). The consumption of food, drinks and alcohol, as well as the use of musical instruments, cameras with tripods or selfie poles are regulated (prohibited except prior authorization). The yearly amount of visitors to Machu Picchu rose from 200,000 in 1987 to 1.2 million in 2014 and threatened the survival of the site. October 2015: Schengen Area - Visa lifted for citizens of Peru and Colombia. Citizens of Peru and Colombia will soon be able to visit countries of the Schengen area without a visa for a stay not exceeding 3 months. The shift was decided in June and is ready to be implemented before the end of this year. However, an e-passport is required to enter the Schengen area without visa. The visa was reestablished in 2001 for both countries in order to limit drug traffic and illegal immigration.
