Patan, also known as Lalitpur, is a city located in the Kathmandu valley just separated from the city of Kathmandu by the Bagmati River.

Patan is famous for its very rich cultural heritage and its tradition of arts and crafts. The city is full of temples, monasteries, and religious art, including the stone Krishna Temple (Krishna Mandir), the nice Hari Shankar Temple and more in Durbar Square. The Golden Temple (Kwa Bahal) is situated near Durbar Square.

Durbar Square in Patan and 6 other historical sites of
the Kathmandu valley (Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Changu Narayan) have been included in the World Heritage List by UNESCO. An interesting museum is also located in Patan Durbar Square.
