Sveti Stefan
(Saint Stephen) is a seaside resort located 5 km southeast of Budva in the most beautiful part of the Montenegrin coast. It was a tidal island, but is now permanently connected to the mainland by a narrow isthmus. It is part of the Budva Riviera.

Sveti Stefan
was once a fortified fishing village dating back to the 15th century. It was converted into a luxury ‘town-hotel’ in 1960, when the few remaining villagers moved to the mainland. The resort had a lot of celebrities, including Marilyn Monroe, Willy Brandt, Sophia Loren, and Claudia Schiffer among its guests.

The island is now undergoing a second renaissance, with a re-development of several hotels and leisure facilities, including a major programme of redesign and refurbishment of Villa HotelMilocer, the former summer residence of Queen Marija Karadordević.

The Church of St. Stefan is the oldest monument in the island.
