Pictures from Belle Mare and the golf courses in the east coast of Mauritius: The Legend and the Saint Geran.
The Legend golf course at Belle Mare in the East of Mauritius: an 18-hole, par 72 golf course.
Further north of Trou d'Eau Douce, the tourist area of the east coast of Mauritius stretches to Palmar and Belle Mare and extends to the Pointe de Flacq Peninsula. Due to the abundance of hotels, it is one of the great tourist destinations in the island. If some hotels have aged, others one have been renovated or are new.
Palmar and Belle Mare host hotels such as La Palmeraie Hotel, Ambre Resort, Veranda Palmar Beach, Lux Belle Mare (formerly Beau Rivage Villas), The Residence, and Emereaude Beach Attitude. Some shops, rather similar to the factory shops in Floréal, have settled in the area and offer clothes or other products for tourists.
The Pointe de Flacq Peninsula contains first a long and wide public beach which is quite popular with Mauritians. It ends with a series of large resorts: Long Beach Resort, Belle Mare Plage Resort and Saint Geran Resort. The Water Leisure Park (a water park) and a large retirement home for elderly Mauritians are set in the peninsula too.
In Pointe de Flacq, you find also:
- two 18-hole golf courses: the par 71, 6018 m. long golf course at The Legend that was opened in 1994 and the par 71, 5492 m. long The Links golf course that was designed in 2002. Both are reserved for residents of Belle Mare Plage Hotel and Prince Maurice Hotel.
- the 9-hole, par 33 golf course at Saint Geran Hotel, which dates back from 1973.
With the golf courses in Ile aux Cerfs and at Anahita Beau Champ, no less than five major golf courses are available within a distance of 20 kilometers on the east coast of Mauritius.
On the other side of the bay, you find Le Prince Maurice Resort at Poste de Flacq. Geographically speaking, it is the last hotel of the tourist area on the east coast of Mauritius. Le Prince Maurice and Belle Mare Plage belong to the same hotel group, the Constance Hotels Experience group.

The 9-hole, par 33, 2514 m. long golf course at Saint Geran Resort. Designed in 1973, it is the oldest golf course in Mauritius (excepted for the 18-hole, par 68, 4870 m. long golf course at Gymkhana Club created in 1844 by the British in Vacoas in the central highlands, which is in fact the first golf course created in the southern hemisphere).
