Candi Prambanan is a 9th-century Hindu temple compound located about 15 km north-east of Yogyakarta in Central Java. It is the largest temple compound dedicated to Shiva in Indonesia. Originally there were a total of 240 temples in Prambanan. The inner square contains 16 temples, the most significant being the 47 m (154 ft) high central Shiva temple flanked to the north by the Brahma temple and to the south by the Vishnu temple. The site was deserted soon after it was completed, possibly owing to the eruption of nearby Mount Merapi.

Candi Prambanan  is a site of UNESCO's world heritage list and one of the most majestic temples in Southeast Asia.
