Atlantic road in Norway
The Atlantic Ocean road (in Norwegian, Atlanterhavsvegen) in Norway.

The 8.3 km (5 mi) long Atlantic road connects several small coastal communities and islands, from Averøy to Vevang and Eide in the Mainland. The road is part of Norwegian national road 64 (Rv 64) and has 8 bridges. It is located in Møre og Romsdal County in the Western Fjords area of Norway. It is also a popular tourist route and offers great open sea views. The Atlantic road is now toll-free.

Along the road, you’ll find resting areas, picnic areas and restaurants. Park your car and explore the islands by foot or by bike, or enjoy fishing, diving, and bird watching. Several smaller roads branch out to ports with breakwaters offering protection from the elements. The viewing platform on the outer end of the breakwater at Askevågen offers a 360-degree panoramic view of the archipelago and the ocean.

The impressive Storseisundet Bridge (in Norwegian, Storseisundet bru) is the longest (260 m, 850 ft.) of the eight bridges that make up the Atlantic Ocean Road.

The five kilometer long Atlantic Ocean tunnel connects Kristiansund (Gomalandet island) to the island Averøy so that it serves as an extension of the Atlantic Ocean road. With a depth of 250 meters (820 ft), it is one of the deepest undersea tunnels in the world.

You can combine a tour on the Atlantic Road with the Norwegian Coastal Express (Hurtigruten). You just leave the Hurtigruten in Kristiansund and catch up again in Molde.
