Pollfossen (Pollfoss run) on the Otta River, Norway.

The Otta River flows through the Ottadal valley in the municipalities of Skjåk, Lom, Vågå and Sel (Oppland county) on the northern edge of Jotunheimen National Park. It flows into lake Vågåvatnet (in Lom), and then continues and meets the Gudbrandsdalslågen river in Sel.

The Pollfossen are powerful, 1 km-long rapids of the Otta  River with a 81m descent and an additional 4 m fall. The place is popular with experienced kayak enthusiasts (Pollfoss run).

In 2012, the municipality of Sel decided to vote for damming the Otta River by Åsåren, emptying a section of river loved and run by many kayakers and rafters of all ages. This would be the first in a series of three dams planned in the area.

In the area of Lom and Skjåk, kayakers have a great number of different rivers (Åstri, Otta, Bøvra, Skjøli and Tora) and amazing rapids. This is also the spot where they can find the famous Skjåk-wave, where both the Norwegian and the European championships of kayak-rodeo took place.
