Villa de Leyva in Colombia
Villa de Leyva in Colombia: the main square.

Villa de Leyva is a small colonial town located in the department of Boyacá in Colombia. It is considered one of the finest colonial villages of Colombia and was declared a National Monument.

The main square of Villa de Leyva has an area of 14,000 m². Completely paved in the center of the town, it is probably the largest square in Colombia and the main attraction of the town. The parish church, several restaurants and handicraft stores are located in the main square.

Other attractions of Villa de Leyva include the Palaeontological Museum (invertebrate fossils), the Museum of the teacher Luis Alberto Acuña, and the Museum El Carmen (religious art). You find some more attractions in the surroundings of the city: a few archaeological sites (Sáchica and Monquirá), the Gondova Theme Park (dinosaurs), the convent of Santo Ecce Homo and the flora and fauna sanctuary of  Iguaque.
