Carpincho in Colombia
Carpincho (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris) in Los Llanos, Colombia.

Weighing as much as a man (between 35 and 65 kg / 75-140 lbs), the capybara is the largest rodent in the world. It is between 105 and 135 cm (40-55 in) long.

Capybaras are semi-aquatic mammals living in grassy wetland areas or close to rivers in almost all countries of South America. Their eyes and ears are high on the head so they can easily be kept above water when swimming. They are fast runners and excellent swimmers since they have partially webbed feet.

Capybaras are herbivore. They eat also their own dung to extract maximum nutrition from their food. Jaguars, pumas, caimans, and anacondas are the main predators of capybaras. Capybaras have been classified as a species of Least Concern on the IUCN Red List

Anaconda in Colombia
Anaconda (Eunectes murinus) in Los Llanos, Colombia.

An anaconda, also known as water boa, is a large, non-venomous snake found in tropical South America. It spends most of its life in or around water.

Reaching more than 6.6 m (22 ft) long, it
is one of the largest snakes in the world. In particular, green anacondas can grow to more than 8.8 meters (29 feet), weigh more than 227 kilograms (550 pounds), and measure more than 30 centimeters (12 inches) in diameter.

Anacondas are carnivores. They are constrictors, squeezing the captured prey until it asphyxiates. They swallow the prey whole (head first), no matter the size. Anacondas eat pigs, deer, caiman, birds, fish, rodents, and other animals. They are nocturnal.
