Santa Barbara's harbor is home to the world famous Stearns Wharf, a great destination for the entire family. Stearns Wharf, California’s oldest working wharf dating back to 1872, features shops, several restaurants, and the newly rebuilt Ty Warner Sea Center (a museum that focuses on the marine life and the related conservation of the Santa Barbara Channel). It was built by local lumberman John P. Stearns. When completed in 1872, it became the longest deep-water pier between Los Angeles and San Francisco.

The Harbor Restaurant was built on the wharf in 1941, marking an end to the shipping and transportation era of the 19th century.

Santa Barbara Mission is a Spanish mission founded (Padre Fermín Lasuén) by the Franciscan order near present-day Santa Barbara as the tenth mission for the religious conversion of the indigenous local Chumash—Barbareño tribe of Native American people. It was founded on December 4, 1786, the feast day of Saint Barbara. The Franciscans built 21 missions in California, including three in Santa Barbara County: Mission Santa Ines in Solvang, La Purisima Mission in Lompoc and Mission Santa Barbara, known as the “Queen of the Missions.”

Santa Barbara Mission is the only mission to remain under the leadership of the Franciscan Friars since its founding. It is maintained as an active place of worship, sightseeing stop, and national historic landmark. The Mission Plaza is transformed every Memorial Day weekend with 200 colorful, large-scale street paintings created by 400 artists and young people.

Santa Barbara Mission is located at 2201 Laguna Street, Santa Barbara, about 3 km (2 mi) inland from the harbor. Mission Historical Park consists of ruins of Mission Santa Barbara's old waterworks, tannery vats, grassy areas, and the A.C. Postel Garden.  The rose garden contains an accredited All American Rose selection of over 1,500 plants adjacent to the Mission.
