Maha Bandula (which is sometimes spelled Mahabandoola) Park is located in the center of the city of Yangon in Myanmar. The rectangular Park is bordered by important buildings like the Sule Pagoda (a historic pagoda that houses hairs of Buddha), the City Hall, the former seat of the Supreme Court of Justice of the country, and the Emmanuel Baptist Church (one of the oldest churches in the city). Those buildings have been listed on the Yangon City Heritage List. The Monument of independence is located in Maha Bandula Park.

The Park is named after General Maha Bandula who fought the British in the first Anglo-Burmese War (1824 - 1826). During the British colonial era, the Park was called Fytche Square.

Maha Bandula Park is popular with people of all ages.

Yangon River in Myanmar
Yangon River in Myanmar: ferry crossing the Yangon River from the city of Yangon to Dalah.

People visiting Yangon can go and discover the Ayeyarwady Delta from two jetties on the Yangon River. The first Pier is located Pansodan Street. From that pier, ferries provide regular river crossings to Dalah on the other side of the river. From Dalah, you can go by road to Twante in the Delta. The beautiful Shwe Sandaw Pagoda (one of the oldest in the country) and traditional pottery workshops are some the main sights of Twante. Those ferries are used by hordes of local people who come and work or sell goods in Yangon.

From the other pier, Lan Thit Pier, cruises go to Pathein, the capital of the Ayeyarwady Region. Cruise to Bagan and Mandalay depart from that pier too.

Buses, taxis and trishaws serve the shopping area close to the Sule Pagoda in the center of Yangon. A lively open-air market is held on the sidewalks of Mahabandoola Road and surroundings.

Burmese trishaws are tricycles with up to 2 passengers who sit back to back next to the driver. They are known as saiq-kas. There is no motorcycle in Downtown Yangon.
