Coastline of Vis Island in Dalmatia, Croatia. Saint George's Bay

Vis is the farthest inhabited Croatian island off the mainland. The island is rich in citrus fruits, palm trees and fishing areas. Agriculture, fishing, and tourism are the main resources of the island. It has two municipalities and large bays, one to the north, Saint George's Bay, with the town and harbor of Vis, and the other on the western part of the island, Komiža Bay, with the town of Komiža.

The large and protected Saint George's Bay has been settled since the 4th century BC. It was home to the Greek colony of Issa. The Archaeological Museum of Vis is located in the former Our Lady's fortress, built in the town of Vis by the Austrians at the beginning of 19th century. Vis heritage consists of several fortresses (such as King George III Fortress), churches, and antique monuments.

The Zaglav Beach in the island of Vis is probably
one of the most beautiful beaches on the Adriatic.

Besides the Stiniva Bay which is enclosed by two high rocky cliffs (which are are just four meters from each other in their closest point) in the southern part of Vis Island, the natural attractions of the area include also the nearby islands of Jabuka, Brusnik, Svetac, Biševo, Ravnik, and the Palagruža archipelago.
