Hereunder you find the calendar of major cultural and sporting events in the world, including the most important carnivals and festivals. These events attract visitors in large amounts.
If you are interested in attending one of them, book your trip early. Otherwise, if
you do not want to take part in these events, avoid visiting the related places at the time when the event takes place. Prices for tourist services usually
go up and availability goes down on these occasions.

The events are sorted by date. The cities that have been awarded as capitals of culture are also listed. The International exhibitions are in bold. The sporting events are underlined.

2023

-- 2022 FIFA World Cup (football) in Qatar - the final game on December 18, 2022 at the Lusail Iconic Stadium.
-- Thanksgiving Day in Canada on October 10 and in the United States on November 24, 2022.

-- Kaunas, Lithuania, European capital of Culture 2022, with Esch-sur-Alzette.

-- Thanksgiving Day in Canada on October 11 and in the United States on November 25, 2021.

-- Timișoara, Romania, European capital of Culture 2021, with Elefsina and Novi Sad.
-- Elefsina, Greece, European capital of Culture 2021, with Rijeka and Timișoara.

-- Rosenmontag on February 24, 2020 with notably the Carnival in Cologne in Germany.
-- Euro 2020, UEFA European Championship (football) in June-July 2020 - the semi-final and closing games at the Wembley Stadium in London; the other games in 12 cities of Europe.
-- Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, from July 24 to August 9, 2020.
-- Expo 2020, Universal Exposition in Dubai, UAE, from October 20, 2020 to 10 April 2021 with "Connecting Minds, Creating the Future" as motto.
