Picture of the week (No.11): Beaches in Cambodia.                   Share

Each week (actually about 3 times a month), Willgoto selects here a nice picture. The beaches in Sihanoukville, Cambodia, are the topic of the 11th photo of this series. Sihanoukville and the small islands off that beach resort offer wonderful opportunities for beach holidays, especially when other countries face harsh winters.

The destination. Cambodia is famous for the Angkor ruins, probably the largest archaeological park in the world with a thousand of remains of temples and palaces. The archaeological site of Angkor, in particular the temple of Angkor Wat, wellcomes 2 million visitors a year. It is part of the world heritage listed by UNESCO. Some time ago, in this series of nice pictures, we presented a picture from the famous temple of Banteay Srei, best known under the name of Citadel of Women.

However, tourism in Cambodia has other assets, such as the beautiful beaches in the south of the country. The beach resorts of Sihanoukville and Kep, the Ream National Park and several islands off the coast of Sihanoukville in the Gulf of Thailand have indeed nice white sand beaches, often lined with lush vegetation. The gulf waters are shallow.

In Sihanoukville and Kep, the beaches benefit from an adequate tourism infrastructure and are rarely crowded. At Sihanoukville, the beach includes several sections with a total length of several kilometers. In the Islands, you can still find virgin beaches.

The climate is very pleasant. The cost of living in Cambodia is lower than in several other tropical countries. Cambodia offers many other attractions, the visit of which can complete the trip. In short, all the conditions are met to make Sihanoukville an ideal destination for tourists who are looking for beach holidays when they face the cold winter cold in their own country.
