Wellington is the capital of New Zealand. It is also the second most populous city of the country, after Auckland. Both cities are situated in the North Island of New Zealand. Wellington is located at the south-western tip of the island while Auckland lies on and around an isthmus in the northern part of the island. Wellington is connected to Picton in the South island by ferries. The journey takes between three hours and three hours twenty minutes depending on the vessel.

Wellington is home to the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, commonly known as Te Papa. This is the national museum and art gallery of New Zealand.
