You may discover The Lord of the Rings filming locations on the grounds of a 1250 ha large, former sheep farm near Matamata in the North Island of New Zealand. As a matter of fact, the film set was dismantled in 2004 after filming Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy. It was completely rebuilt for The Hobbit. Then the authorities decided to keep it unchanged. The place is now the setting for a two-hour guided tour.

Mount Doom is actually Mount Ngauruhoe. Mount Ngauruhoe is an active volcano which is located in Tongariro National Park on the Central Plateau of the North Island in New Zealand.
