The former Salt mine of Wieliczka is now a national historic monument of Poland. The mine produced table salt from the 13th century till 1996. That salt mine is the oldest in Europe. It had royal status.

The mine has hundreds of kilometers of galleries with works of art, underground chapels, and statues sculpted in the salt. Wieliczka Salt mine is located about 14 km away from Krakow. It is part of UNESCO world heritage and one of the most popular tourist attractions of Poland.
